Client background:
As their family continues to grow, this couple wanted a home that makes every family function and gathering effortless and unforgettable. Updating and making a space that is timeless meant they could focus less on their home and more on the memories being made in it. The home was designed to balance functionality with comfort for their busy, growing family.
How they found us:
They discovered us through a friend who had recently completed a renovation with Kirkplan. They were impressed by the results their friend had received and were eager to begin upgrading their home. Excited by the ability to turn their vision into reality, they felt confident in the Kirkplan team’s expertise. After discussing their specific needs for creating their dream space, they knew they had found the right partner for their home transformation.
Project goals & needs:
They wanted to update their dark kitchen to create something modern and create more light. To start, they chose to change the flooring throughout all of downstairs, replacing it with matte 24×48 porcelain tiles. Next, they got rid of the builder grade cabinets throughout the 3,800 sf home. They also hoped to improve the flow and functionality of the layout, making it more conducive to family gatherings and entertaining guests. Their main goal for this project was to combine aesthetics with practicality, creating a home that felt both luxurious and livable for everyday use. Lastly, they wanted to create a ‘WOW’ factor in one or more areas of their home.
Project-specific challenges:
One of the key challenges in this project was concealing a wall that couldn’t be removed due to structural limitations. Calling for some creative design, the team worked together and created a pantry that seamlessly hid the wall. The original kitchen featured a very small island and a peninsula for the sink run, which made the space feel cramped and inefficient. This was removed and replaced with a larger, more functional island that would better accommodate the couple’s lifestyle. They also chose to eliminate the dining room to expand on the kitchen and create an open and cohesive space. Additionally, the guest bathroom tubs were turned into spacious modern showers, requiring some plumbing and layout adjustments.
Site or structural issues:
During the renovation process some mold was uncovered behind the bathroom walls, requiring immediate attention. The team was able to remove all affected materials, treating the mold, and addressing underlying moisture issues, before continuing with the renovation, this added another layer of complexity to the project. While this put a short hold on the project, the team was able to work quickly and efficiently to get back on track.
Material & design constraints:
A significant material and design challenge in this project was the couples decision to use four different colors of Cambria quartz in the home. The quartz was used in various areas, including kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and even accent features, requiring each color to compliment each other. This demanded a high level of precision and planning in order to give the homeowners exactly what they envisioned. Despite the complexity, the result was a stunning combination of colors that enhances the home’s modern aesthetic while adding depth and texture to the space.
To achieve the homeowners’ vision of a brighter, more open kitchen, the team removed the kitchen counter that separated it from the dining area, creating an open-concept space. To further brighten the space, we opted for all-white cabinetry and lighter flooring, which instantly made the home feel more expansive and open. To avoid the space feeling too dull, we introduced subtle walnut accents, such as the range hood and island shelving, adding warmth and texture to the design.
Main products used:
KITCHEN
Floor-to-ceiling, full custom cabinets with under-cabinet lighting. Custom hood range and tall cabinets for long-term storage. Waterfall edge on the island. Adjacent dry bar with mini wine fridge complements the kitchen.
LIVING ROOM FIREPLACE
Entertainment area storage with floating shelves against acoustic wood-look vinyl paneling.
LAUNDRY ROOM

Project execution & steps:
The renovation started with gutting the bathrooms, laundry room, and kitchen. All tubs, walls and outdated fixtures that weren’t necessary were also removed. There was also a variety of rewiring and plumbing that had to be done before the installations could begin. Once that was done all new flooring, cabinetry and other amenities were installed. To complete the project, all new lighting and hardware were installed along with a fresh coat of paint. The finishing touches ensured every detail turned out exactly how the homeowners envisioned it.
Before images:
The completed remodel transformed the home into a bright, open space that perfectly matched the clients vision. By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining area, we created a more spacious and connected layout, while the combination of all-white cabinetry and walnut accents added elegance and warmth. The updated bathrooms and laundry room now feature modern, functional designs. The homeowners were extremely satisfied with the result, as the remodel not only met but exceeded their expectations.
