Why we avoid thermofoil. Thermofoil is a thin plastic skin heat-wrapped over composite wood. It behaves well enough at first, then it meets dishwasher steam, range heat or a self-cleaning oven cycle. That is when it peels, curls and yellows, especially on the cabinets beside the range. We use painted hardwood, durable MDF or smooth acrylic instead.
When solid wood makes sense. Solid wood doors perform beautifully in a climate-controlled kitchen. Some spaces move back and forth between air conditioning and outdoor humidity, like a bar next to the lanai or a garage workshop. There, solid wood expands and contracts, which leads to alignment and finish problems over time. Engineered, moisture-stable cores handle those spaces better, and we will tell you honestly which one is right for your room.
